Facebook Smileys, Shortcuts, Attachments: The Popular Social media giant rolled out updates

Facebook is back with exciting features for users with the implementation of new facebook smileys and multimedia options to make its social media network engagement a more interesting experience for users. Exactly three days ago as I was checking my Facebook profile for updates from my followers, I noticed a new change in Facebook chatting and commenting feature which makes me get excited about the site once again, months after the last Facebook Timeline update imbroglio which came as a surprise to me and every other users at the time it was rolled out by the Zuckerberg-led team.

Facebook Updates

Now, you can now chat and show your expressions with friends and loved ones with the new facebook smiley functionality. According to my personal research over this new introduction, it shows that the new facebook smiley is working perfectly with comments, chats and personal messages which signals the interest of  facebook in turning its platform into a perfect chatting and engagement horizon for the world. With recent release of its Windows-based chatting application (for desktop users), this update didn’t come as a surprise to me because personally, I knew already the company is up to something that would put smile on the face of its users.

Facebook smiley and emoticons comes into new updates

Aside the new Facebook smiley, more features were released along with the Emoticons that people take note of, the Facebook chat and messaging platform has been transformed into a fully functional email (messaging client) feature which almost looks alike with the popular Apple mail client, see the quote of AboutSocialMedia about this update:

“It comes with a new two panel layout that looks alike with the Apple’s Mail on the Apple iPad. The re-designed Facebook Messages platform will encourage a more easier ways to attach photos and file, a series of emoticons, and its official keyboard shortcuts.” quoted from ABS

With a recent report from TC claiming Facebook has join hands with Dropbox to provide file sharing facility within Facebook groups, it means Facebook is on the rise to every situations, producing all features in one single platform – isn’t that interesting?

I think it is!

What Should You Expect?

The new changes has taken place and now is the time for us to learn how to switch to the new interface, so I want to quickly go over each changes so you can have an idea of how it will works and what you should be expecting in the new facebook messages update.

The Clean Layout

The new Facebook messages comes with an entirely new layout featuring a clean and simple two-panel look. The larger right hand panel serves as the main messaging area for everyone while the left side of the interface lists all the new messages on your Facebook account inbox. Aside that, it also serves as search box – this box allow users to search for present and past messages right on the same spot without leaving the page for other task (please note that this area/side is very small when compared to the right side of the Facebook messages interface).

But I forgot to note something here, the right side of the screen also has feature that enable users to reply, read and upload files with outgoing messages with ease.

Attachment, Quick Reply Option, Missing Mobile Feature

In this new update, there weren’t much changes to the previous facebook messages that we’re all familiar with, the fast response box still stays where it was before. But what I’ve noticed as change which took place is the feature that let users add attachments with quick message reply check box.

Now the sad part, the old option that let us send fast messages to friend’s mobile phone has disappeared! And I can’t say at this moment whether it will be gone forever or re-introduced with a better functionality in the coming updates. In retrospect, this feature is what many people used daily to receive and send messages via their smartphones. I once wrote an article talking about my experiences using Blackberry Smartphones and one of the main features I like using it with is Facebook (for Blackberry)!

But with this absence, what next?

Let’s wait till next update!

Emoticons and Smileys Codes Updated

As we’ve all known, ever since Facebook have come into the social networking industry, there has never been time when you will chat and see smiley and emoticon’s code in real WYSIWYG view, but rather, it will show the same code as it was typed!

But now, that’s history!

You can now enjoy facebook messages, facebook comments and many other facebook features with real feelings that you have for your friends and loved ones.

So, start adding emotions to your messages 🙂 (y) 🙂

Still Images

Another notable feature in this update is introduction of Still Images functionality for webcam – it is an option that let user send video or photo from webcam which will then be transformed into still images presentation.

Message Action Points

Before, Facebook messages does not have a pleasing option that allow user to mark messages as spam, as unread or archived messages but the feature which has just been introduced in this update will allow that. At the right hand side of the panel has “Actions” which is a drop-down menu, allowing user to mark as read or unread, open chat messages, delete messages or send message and chat conversation to archive to give space for other messages.

But mind you, few of these updates have been introduced while the rest is coming in few weeks. TechATLast will update you as soon as the new update takes place.

What can you say about the changes, do you like the old facebook messages’ look or the newly updated facebook messages? I’d like to hear your views in the comment section below
