Internet Speed Test – Browser's War – Opera top Firefox!

Posted on Oct 1 2011 - 1:41pm by Olawale Daniel

Mozilla released its newest version last week with latest hot browser, Firefox 7, the new product which many believes is the most fastest browser on the globe, even Firefox confirms that too in the Firefox release notes.

The browsers war which normally happened between Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox seems to be different this time, as the two browser struggles to maintain the top position dropping badly for Opera web browser.

This season stats from Lifehacker shows that Opera web browser emerges as the number one browser among all web browsers that were used in the test conducted. The statistics of the internet speed test was conducted based on the experience they got from the four browser’s performance (Mozilla Firefox, Internet Explorer, Opera, and Google Chrome), and the results are as follows:

Best for Cold Boot-Up —Winner: Opera!

With the round of speed tests, it show that Opera boots faster than Mozilla and Chrome because the two can add some seconds to your wait. Opera is super fast withe the result. But, on the other hand, Internet Explorer add about 11 seconds to its normal start up time which might make you to wait for more time before you can be able to surf the net.

Best for Tab Loading — Winner: Opera!

For another time, when it comes to loading more tabs, Opera took mere 3 seconds to load each sites (about nine tabs at a time).

But, another wonder here is, for Internet Explorer to occupy the second place, while Firefox and Chrome lagged behind – I wonder why this!

Best for JavaScript — Winner: Chrome!

This time, Firefox takes a distant second place in Lifehacker’s tests with the Dromaeo suite, with Internet Explorer and Opera closing behind on the line.

Best for DOM/CSS — Winner: Opera!

Opera performs excellently here too to become the best browser for DOM/CSS (Cascading Styles Sheet test). In this test, Firefox lagged behind but not too far behind, and also Internet Explorer staying at the end of the pack.  However, Google Chrome, unfortunately for the browser, fumbles partway to the end of the CSS testing session.

Best for Memory Use (No Extensions) — Winners: Opera and Firefox!

Mozilla lost this place for Opera again! Opera is a low memory browser and it is still the number one for this position.

“Opera’s always aimed to be a low-memory browser, and it still grabs first in our startup tests, but once you add nine tabs to the mix, Firefox surprisingly uses its memory more efficiently than other browsers. Note that these memory tests were a bit interesting—while IE, Chrome, and Opera all held fast to their memory values, Firefox fluctuated a bit more. It started up higher with Chrome and IE, but then backed off after a few seconds for much lower memory usage. So, you might notice a slight lag for a minute or two, but it’s clear that Firefox 7 really is keeping the memory hogging at bay.”

Best for Memory Use (Five Extensions) — Winners: Opera and Firefox!

To see the best among the browsers in the test, the testers adds five extensions to each browsers and Opera web browser and Mozilla Firefox won.

Overall Scores for the Browsers

  1. Opera 11.51: 82%
  2. Firefox 7: 73%
  3. Internet Explorer 9: 47.5%
  4. Chrome 14: 43%

I agree with this post. Base on my experience, Opera is the fastest browser that I’ve ever used. I also use it on my mobile phone. I can synchronize my bookmarks on OperaMobile/Mini with Opera on my PC that is why I love it.
