Coupon has been available for centuries as printed document, but recently the digital version is getting popular as ecommerce booms in the 21st century.

If you haven’t heard the story of Asa Candler, its better you visit Google for a briefing, this man transformed Coca-Cola from an ordinary tonic into a profitable business employing an innovative marketing idea. Candler had the company’s staffs and sales representative distribute complimentary coupon for the product. Coupons were placed in magazines, mailed to potential customers and free syrup given to soda fountains. On estimate between 1894 and 1913, one in nine Americans had received a free Coca Cola amounting to a total of 8.5 million free drinks served. Candler announced to shareholders in 1985 that Coca Cola was served in every state of the United State.

1. Collecting Coupon is time consuming

That was decades ago, during those times, coupon are only available in your local Sunday paper, you have to wait every week to get one. Nowadays, coupon are everywhere; Online, magazines, Daily papers, Manufacturer’s websites, On back of receipts, On coffee cups, On fast food packaging, In your email, On your cellphone etc.

2. Coupon don’t really save much money

Coupon can save up to 50% or more on your regular weekly grocery bill, you can even save more if you develop a stock pile of on sale item that you regularly use.

3. Online coupon is different from printed coupon

In my opinion, all coupons are the same, online or internet coupon is just effective in its method of distribution and can be redeemed instantly on an online shopping mart. People who don’t shop online don’t need an internet coupon, but the printed will be like a treasure in their hand. Site like nordstrom store offers very good nordstrom promo code on their website for you to get the best of discount or rebate when shopping with them.

4. You usually have to buy something to get a coupon

This statement is not true, although in the other way round, you only use coupon when want a rebate, but in real context, you don’t have to buy something to get it. If you visit the internet today, even without requesting, you just find a shopping promo code in your inbox. Coupons are now available so much that you get tired of them; I quite get a number of them in my email spam folder. There are a number of websites that strictly focus only on couponing, just go there to pick a code and you get a pretty discount on your purchase.

5. Coupons encourage overbuying

Coupon doesn’t encourage overbuying. Buying what you don’t need or beyond the quantity you need because you get a great discount is strictly your problem. The sanguine has this attribute, not only when there is discount, but when they see what appeals to them even if it is of no use. Don’t ever blame an ordinary coupon over that.

6. People who use coupons are cheap

Even financial expert recommends the use of coupon advising you to save at all cost. Why waste money when there is an opportunity for a discount? The use of coupon will allow you to save the change which could be further use on other things such as a nice vacation, movies and for the purchase of other needed items.

7. Coupons only help to get discount on processed foods

Thinking coupon is created to only make you a foodie, if you have not known, almost every product and services now has a coupon, even the Apple iPhone;), health services, gadgets and many other products can be couponed to get a discount.

    It’s definitely a problem that people view coupon users as either cheap or poor. It’s simply an effective way to save money, you don’t even need to spend more then 5 minutes collecting coupons.
