3 Nokia Rumours You’d Wish Were True

Nokia has just released official invites to a Mobile World Congress press conference on February 25, getting the tech world all excited. It could be remembered that Nokia launched the Nokia Lumia 920 last year with much fanfare and controversy. Amidst the pronouncements that Nokia was dead (or dying): Nokia divulged in a press release that their Mobile Phone business unit and Lumia portfolio delivered better than expected results.

Nokia rumours

The Finnish company is still not out of the danger zone though. The Economic Times reports that Nokia was planning to suspend dividends in an effort to save cash. With that said, it would be very interesting to see what Nokia comes up with in 2013.  Here’s a look at the exciting Nokia rumours swirling around:

Nokia Lumia with 41 MP PureView

When the Lumia 920 was launched last year, some consumers said that its’ awesome specs could have been even more drool-worthy if only it had the same 41MPsensor that the Nokia 808 PureView has. If the rumour mill is true, then this dream could now become a reality. The news was first heard from digital marketing expert Flavio Pic on his Twitter account. The alleged device is interestingly codenamed Project EOS – EOS being the same branding that Canon uses on its DLSR cameras — and will most probably be unveiled at the Mobile World Congress 2013 at the end of February.  When asked about one Twitter user about the credibility of the rumour, Flavio answered, “my sources are very reliable and credible.” Now if a Nokia Lumia 920 with 41MP sensor is really in the works, this would be nothing short of awesome, differentiating Nokia from the rest of the competition.

Metal Body Lumia

Not only is Project EOS underway, Flavio also says that we can expect Nokia to launch six new mobile phones in the first half of 2013. One of these is said to be metal-body Nokia Lumia 920. Called Project Catwalk (maybe because of its attention-grabbing body?), the supposed new flagship device is going to be thinner and lighter, thanks to its aluminum frame.  The current Lumia line sports a polycarbonate body.  Apart from the metal frame, this new Lumia is expected to have similar specs as the current Lumia 920.  The Verge also reports that two other Lumia handsets will be debuting this year.

Nokia Laser for Verizon

In another report, The Verge says that Verizon is planning on releasing a high-end Lumia handset called Nokia Laser.  The Laser is going to be the US carrier’s flagship device and will be another variant of the Lumias launching later this year. The Nokia Lumia has been an AT&T exclusive since it was unveiled last year, so this will be good news for Verizon customers.

Needless to say, all eyes are now on the Finnish company’s next move in the smartphone chessboard.  With Samsung and Apple still rocking it at top places in the mobile phone market, new high-end handsets from Nokia present a welcome alternative.
