The latest Sony smartphone product belongs to the Xperia family, it is a 6.44-inch LTE-enabled phablet powered by the Qualcomm number one Snapdragon 800 processor. Apart from being the best, it is also the biggest handset from Sony. I am talking about the new Sony Xperia Z Ultra.
What’s up with the new Sony Xperia Z Ultra hands on?
At the CES 2013, Sony showcased its water and dust proof Xperia Z smartphone, now I think Sony is producing the senior brother and called it “Xperia Z Ultra.”
Design
The Sony Xperia Z Ultra has a very attractive look which is advancement on the CES Xperia Z. The front and rear is made up of metallic frame with tempered glass which gives it a minimalistic, stylish appeal. According to the CNET product review dude, he confessed that you will be impressed handling the smartphone just like it used to be with the Xperia Z with its ultra 6.55mm thinness.
Recently, Sony has employed the slim body as a market strategy for its products; it used the same in the Xperia Tablet Z, and now, the Sony Xperia Z Ultra, even though the phablet is not as thin as the Huawei’s Ascend P6 with the 6.18mm body.
As big as the device is, Sony intelligently made it easily hand-held, the Sony phablet weighs 212g a little heavier than the Samsung Galaxy Mega 6.3 with 198g which rather has a plastic-made chassis.
The 6.44 inch display full-HD Triluminous on the Sony Xperia Z Ultra is so fascinating. It’s like the color shift issue on the Xperia Z has been resolved, the color is so vibrant and crisp.
Features
Just like the IP58 durability rating on the Xperia Z, the Sony Xperia Z is also water and dust proof. This is a very good smartphone for the frogmen; you can take full-HD videos underwater with its 8 megapixel camera. Even though the Xperia Z came with a 13-megapixel shooter, the 8 megapixel on the Ultra could have an advantage for better low light shots.
The device maker made a stylus on the Sony Xperia Z Ultra making it a true phablet, besides the follow-come stylus, you can write on the screen with your pencil or a metal pen, but it’s not pressure sensitive and won’t detect a thicker line with your free hand, you will manually select your brush size in the sketch app.
The Sony Xperia Z Ultra will be the first Sony product to run on the latest Jelly Bean Android 4.2.
More features on the Sony Xperia Z Ultra include Bluetooth, NFC, Wi-Fi and screen mirroring.
Expect an inbuilt storage of 16GB with a microSD card slot for expansion on the phablet device; it also has a RAM of 2GB.
It also packs a 3,000mAh battery.
Performance
Sony Xperia Z Ultra is powered by a 2.2 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 quad-core processor; you should expect something extra on the speed.
Sony promises a video playback of up to 5.5 hours and a talk time of 11 hours on the Sony Xperia Z Ultra.
Outlook
The phalet expected to stand this Sony device is the Samsung Galaxy Note 3, Samsung has to do a lot of homework on the coming device, and Sony has set a benchmark on the Ultra in the world of phablets.
The Sony Xperia Z Ultra is expected to launch globally at Q3 in 3 colors; black, white and purple.
