Will There Be a Pinterest App for Android in the Near Future?

The growing popularity of Pinterest has Android smart phone users crying out for a Pinterest application for their phones. This incredibly addictive website has very quickly built a large following, and many of these Pinterest users are looking for a mobile way to find recipes, crafts, and other things that will capture their interest. These cries have not gone unnoticed. The creators of this website are working hard to make sure everyone can use Pinterest everywhere they go.pinterest app for android

What is Pinterest?

If you haven’t already heard of Pinterest, it is a social networking website where people can “pin”, catalog, and share all of the things they love online. A user can pin anything they find, including dinner ideas, do-it-yourself projects, places they want to visit and gift ideas for friends and family. After they have successfully pinned a site, they can easily find their ideas again within their folders on the site. Users can also browse their friends’ pin boards to see their ideas, comment on their favorites, and add their own ideas for others to pin to their boards.

Pinterest App for iPhone

The creators of this app wanted to make sure it wasn’t just a similar version to the website. After all, we use our phones much differently than we use our computers. Phones have much smaller screens and are used in smaller increments. They didn’t want to make it an app to go along with the website. Instead, they hoped that this would be the primary way to use Pinterest, so they wanted to make this app as easy to use as possible.

We are much more likely to look up a few interesting things while we’re standing in line at the store than when we’re paying our bills online at home or while we’re at work. This type of quick and convenient use was kept in mind while the app was created. It loads very quickly, and it is very easy to use with one hand, which is exactly how most of us use our phones. Most other application creators don’t realize that less really is more when it comes to our phones. This app requires less tapping, which means you can easily browse and pin more interesting pages in much less time.

Pinterest Moves to Android

On September 13, 2011, the creators of Pinterest posted a statement on their website telling their users how excited they were to create mobile applications for the iPhone and Android phones. At this point, there was only an iPhone app, but they wanted to make sure everyone has access to a mobile form of Pinterest.

This is why they launched a “streamlined experience” for Android phones where users could “view pins and boards, look at profiles, follow people, and repin all the things [they] find.”

They are still far from their goal of being able to provide this access to everyone everywhere, but they have started to take the right steps toward this great achievement.

  2. I just sent a request yesterday asking if they were planning on an app, it is too hard to use on the Samsung Galaxy without. Hope it comes soon. They didn’t respond to my email.

  3. Thank you Brenden and Amy for your comments. While I am not sure exactly how long it will take for them to create and launch the app, I am certain that they are doing their best to get this app to the public as soon as possible. As I said in the article, the creators of Pinterest really want this site to be as accessible as possible, and they believe that a phone application is the best way to do this. As the consumer, we just have to be patient.
